Side view VUA compass

The compass housing is made of PMMA (Perspex, Plexiglas) and in this case machined with conventional milling cutter and lathe. Then it was completely polished.

Front view of the VUA compass. Visible are the two cylindrical bubble spirit levels. These have a diameter of 6 mm and are sealed with a piece of PMA. The inclination scale is read on the inside of the compass.

Clearly visible the opening on the left side of the compass. The thumb of the left hand rests on this, while the compass rose can be turned with the right hand.

Sloping bottom view with folded open inclination measuring surface. The Dural hinged surface can also be made of other, non-magnetic materials, such as austenitic stainless steel or brass.

The friction of the hinge point can be adjusted thanks to the plastic rings so that the hinge surface remains in the required position even after years of use.
